The main objective of the project Rights of victims of violence– Toward the European solutions is to establish a better legal framework for protecting the rights of victims of domestic violence and improving implementation of legislation.
- Creating a systematic knowledge of the position of victims in four types of court proceedings-criminal, family, violation and enforcement procedure, with an emphasis on the position and needs of vulnerable social groups
- Creating a training curriculum for the target group-prosecutors, and judges who handle four types of court proceedings, based on the results of research on the position of victims and the analysis recommendations, decisions and legislative procedures in the European Union
- Proposals for amendments to the relevant laws will be made based on the results of research and participatory process with legal experts and professionals from different sectors (public, private, NGO)
The project is implemented in Belgrade and in 5 districts in Serbia (including 28 cities): 1. Kragujevac (cities: Batočina, Arandjelovac, Raca, Topola, Kragujevac); 2. Šabac (cities Loznica, Ljubovija, Bogatić, Vladimirci, Koceljeva, Nis, Sabac); 3. Smederevo (cities Smederevska Palanka, Velika Plana, Smederevo); 4. Leskovac (cities Medvedja, Lebane, Bojnik, Crna Trava, Vlasotince and Leskovac); 5. Vranje (towns: Presevo, Bujanovac, Trgoviste, Bosilegrad, Surdulica, Vladicin Han and Vranje).
The main activities planned by the project from 2010 to 2013:
- In the period of 3 years we will be organizing 34 seminars for judges of criminal, family and executive departments and misdemeanor courts and public prosecutors, representatives of social work centers and lawyers of women's NGOs.
- Conducting a research on the position of victims of domestic and sexual violence.
- Monitoring government policies / strategies and advocate for positive changes
- Providing free legal aid service at the AWC
