In her presentation, entitled "Youth and experiences of sexual violence", the representative of AWC talked about sexual harassment that girls encounter from the earliest ages, about the energy they invest to deal with it, as well as the consequences it has on their lives.
"In a society where the culture of rape reigns - which means that rape is not just an individual act, but an integral part of the cultural matrix in which girls and women are not trusted, their experiences are minimized, trivialized or normalized, and men are absolved of responsibility - sexual harassment, as already said, is considered a milder form of sexual violence. However, many girls and women believe that the word 'harassment' itself is too mild," Pavlović pointed out.
The aim of the round table "Sexual Harassment: From Theory and Understanding to Victim Support" was to bring together representatives of the academic community and the civil sector who are interested in studying the problem of violence against women with a focus on the issue of sexual violence as a form of gender-based violence in different social contexts and spheres.
