"Values under pressure: psychology between the ideal and the real" is the title of the 73rd Congress of Psychologists of Serbia, held from June 4 to 7, 2025, at Divčibare. Psychologists discussed issues of sustainability of professional standards and values in a time of growing social challenges and uncertainty. The representative of the Autonomous Women's Center presented the results of co-authored research on the concept of "parental alienation" in cases of domestic violence.
The announcement of the 73rd Congress of Psychologists states that the psychologists’ daily practice is increasingly becoming a space where the ideal principles of the profession and the reality of the system in which they work collide. Various types of financial pressure directly jeopardize the quality of psychological work. In the public sector, psychologists struggle with a lack of resources, an overload of administrative tasks and often inappropriate working conditions.
The program of the Congress was structured so as to provide a comprehensive overview of these challenges and the development of practical strategies to overcome them. Through plenary lectures, symposia, sections, round table discussions, panels and workshops, the development of sustainable psychological practice models in conditions of limited resources, strategies for preserving professional standards, intersectoral cooperation and systemic solutions for improving the position of psychologists were discussed.
As every year, the Congress was open to various scientific and professional topics from all areas of psychology. The AWC representative presented the results of research on the concept of "parental alienation" in cases of domestic violence - an analysis of court practice, whose authors are Tanja Ignjatović, Tanja Pavlov and Marija Lukić. The participants at the presentation showed great interest in the topic and findings, which resulted in questions and discussion.
