Initial premise of the Autonomous Women's Center is that policies, in order to fight against violence against women, at the local and national level should be consistent with international standards and good practices in this field. In accordance with the strategic goals, that the Convention of the United Nations and the Council of Europe should be implemented well by the state and that in the process of joining the European Union we must respect the human rights of women, Autonomous Women's Center consistently monitors the implementation of and advocates for a comprehensive, coherent, relevant, specific, efficient and effective national policies against violence against women.

Bearing in mind that domestic violence is a serious social problem, which the Autonomous Women's Center is dedicated to dealing with for more than 16 years, we express our disagreement with the process during which, with no previous discussion and analysis, it was decided to write the Law.

We are concerned because the Model of the law, with the inadequate operationalization of the conceptual assumptions, is a "step backwards" compared with those of hard-earned level of legal protection from domestic violence, of which women are the most frequent victims.

We are particularly concerned that such a bad model will be the basis for the law work group which was set up by the Gender Equality Directorate and where there are no representatives of women's organizations.
